Every "best trucking companies" list you've ever seen was probably written by someone who's never sat in a cab. Most of them are sponsored, outdated, or based on nothing more than name recognition.

We built something different. Best Trucking Companies ranks carriers using real data, pulled from active job listings on Lanefinder and federal safety records from the FMCSA. No surveys, no opinions, no pay-to-play.

How we rank companies

Every company gets a composite score based on four weighted categories:

  • Pay (30%) - Average weekly pay from active listings, plus sign-on bonuses, guaranteed pay, and settlement frequency. This isn't what a recruiter told someone two years ago. It's what's being offered right now.
  • Safety (25%) - Based on FMCSA violation data. Unsafe driving and hours-of-service violations are weighted more heavily than other categories, because those are the ones that actually put you at risk.
  • Benefits (25%) - Medical, dental, vision, 401k match, paid vacation, dedicated routes, and more. The benefits that get scored depend on whether you're a W2 company driver or an owner-operator, because the two aren't looking for the same things.
  • Responsiveness (20%) - How quickly a company actually reviews your application. Some carriers respond within hours. Others ghost you for weeks. This matters more than most lists give it credit for.

W2 and Owner-Operator — separate rankings

A company that's great for a W2 driver might be mediocre for an owner-op, and the other way around. The benefits are different, the pay structure is different, and what counts as a good deal is different.

That's why we split them. Best Trucking Companies ranks carriers for W2 company drivers. Best Owner Operator Companies ranks for owner-ops and 1099 contractors, scoring things like fuel surcharges, base plate programs, and lease purchase options instead of health insurance and PTO.

Sort by what matters to you

The overall ranking is a good starting point, but maybe you only care about pay. Or maybe you've had a bad experience with a carrier that had a sketchy safety record and that's your top priority now. You can re-sort the entire list by pay, safety, benefits, responsiveness, or fleet size.

Rankings shift depending on where you are. A company that's hiring aggressively in Texas might barely have a presence in Ohio. You can filter by state or city to see who's actually hiring near you and how they stack up locally.
